Cherry Blossom Season is the Japanese equivalent of Easter in the West, a major festival marking the arrival of Spring.
Just like Easter it always happens on a different day every year, but unlike Easter it is not decided by an arcane calculation based on the lunar calendar. It is an entirely natural phenomenon, based on the willingness of the lotus blossom to show it pale pinkness to the warming air.
This year, according to the latest forecasts, Tokyo can expect to see the pink flood sometime after the 17th of March, when it may clash with the green of anyone celebrating St. Patrick's Day.
