Thirty years after “emo” first stalked the earth, the New York quartet who helped invent the more respectable, non-eyeliner version finally make it to Japan. TEXAS IS THE REASON—famous for one excellent album, a name derived from the Kennedy Assassination, and decades of selective reunions—arrive for their first-ever Japanese dates. The smaller of the two Tokyo shows is at O-nest on a Wednesday night (which I've always thought of as a kind "midweek weekend"). O-nest was pressed into service after the Thursday gig at WWW X sold out and might be something of a warm-up. Expect the hits from the sole album, a few deeper cuts for the emo trainspotters, and the peculiar atmosphere that only occurs when a short-lived 90s band finally plays a room in a new city 30 years too late. Capacity is 250 max, and the air conditioning sucks so expect a sweaty, intimate gig that will spiritually meld you to the other 249 people in the audience for life. Support from Japanese punk band Wetnap.
4th November, O-Nest, Shibuya
¥8,500 (Ticket info).
