SEX DOLLS BUSTED SMUGGLING A BILLION IN GOLD INTO JAPAN

Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 46-year-old Chinese company executive and five accomplices for trying to sneak over ¥1 billion worth of gold into Japan — cleverly (or creepily) concealed inside the metal frames of adult sex dolls.

According to reports in the Japanese media, the gang shipped three "love dolls" from Shenzhen to Narita Airport back in January. They were declared as innocent "mannequins," but customs inspectors found 49kg of gold bars stuffed into the hollow tubes of the dolls' internal skeletons. Talk about giving someone a boner!

The haul was worth around ¥1.075 billion, with the smugglers aiming to dodge roughly ¥107.5 million in consumption tax.

The cargo was headed for an apartment in Arakawa Ward, where the plan was apparently to dismantle the dolls, melt down the gold into standard 1kg bars, and disappear it into the market. Police believe the group, led by Zhou Jianjun (residing in Kamagaya, Chiba), had used this bizarre method more than once.

No word yet on whether the suspects have confessed. In a city full of eccentric imports, this one takes the (gold) cake — or is this story simply being blown up to be bigger than it is? Only in Tokyo.
