Foreigners are under suspicion again after a number of vending machines were wrecked at the Kamakura Seaside Park in Yuigahama, Kamakura City.
On social media there has already been comment about how Japan is no longer a "high trust" society thanks to rising numbers of foreign visitors and residents.
Yes, we know, Japanese never commit crimes!
Also, social media is full of plenty of "bad actors" who are mainly interested in stirring up division.
In the incident three vending machines were attacked, with their cash slots pried open, presumably with crowbars. The Kamakura Police Department has said it is investigating the case as a theft.
The discovery of the damaged machines was made at approximately 5:00 AM on Sunday, April 13th, by a man taking an early morning walk.
While "gaijin" are suspected, the incident resembles a similar attack on a vending machine in Uji City Botanical Park, in Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture that took place in June 2024. In the that incident, two local Japanese men were found to be responsible.
