Carcass
April's not really a great time for music in Japan. Everybody's starting a new job or a new school, so the focus is on attending embarrassing "ice breaking" events and booze-ups rather than kicking back at a gig. But what about those people who don't go to work or school? Here then are the best of the few gigs that are actually going on in the audio-starved month of April...
CARCASS
When you say "Merseybeat" people inevitably think of the lovable mop-tops, John, Paul, George, and Ringo, but some of us think of aging Liverpudlian Death Metal legends Caracass, who, erm, drag their carcasses to Japan, where they have been on a few Loud Park line-ups in the past. This outing brings them to Shibuya's 1,300-capacity Spotify O-EAST twice - on the 18th and 19th with the first gig sold out. Price: ¥8,500 (Ticket info)

RADWIMPS
Japan's own geeky alt-rockers Radwimps can be trusted to put on a frenetic and entertaining show before their loyal and rather over-excited fans at the 13,000 capacity Yoyogi National Gymnasium on the 6th and 7th. Also, two more shows at Yokohama's Arena MM on the 13th and 14th. Price: ¥8,800-12,200 (Ticket info)
ELVIS COSTELLO
Oh, yeh, 1970s old-timer Elvis Costello is also in town with a logistically stripped-down two-man line-up for a couple of gigs at the Sumida Triphony Hall (capacity 1,800) on the 8th and 9th, but both are already sold out. See, there is demand for almost any kind of music, even at this time of year. Tickets: ¥11,000-15,000
