An Indian Pink Floyd?
Glass Beams are a Melbourne-based trio led by Indian-Australian multi-instrumentalist Rajan Silva. After you get over the fact that they play in freaky, glass-beaded face masks—like the ugly girls in the harem—you can plunge into their rich stew of psychedelic funk and indie-jazz, infused with traditional Indian music influences (hypnotic ragas, Bollywood, etc.) along with a bit of Aussie surf rock and krautrock polyrhythms thrown in. Did I hear a digeridoo? You might just be too busy figuring out what's in this "aural curry" to know if you love it or not. My guess is you will.
21st Oct. Spotify O-East, Shibuya. Price: ¥8,800 (Ticket info).
