12 years for the 100 kg Hitman
In the latest chapter of Japan’s thriving yami-baito “dark part-time job” industry, the Tokyo District Court has handed 26-year-old Reiya Yamamoto a 12-year stretch for answering an online "help wanted" ad that basically read: "Rape my ex-girlfriend and I’ll throw you tens of thousands of yen."
Yamamoto, a nearly 100-kilogram specimen, who apparently spent his free time dancing on TikTok, was unemployed and scrolling the usual anonymous boards in May 2025 when he saw the unusual job offer.
The poster—Retsu Matsuda, 28, the victim’s ex-boyfriend—promised 30,000 yen for anyone willing to rape his ex and film the entire performance. The hefty Yamamoto signed up and bought zip-ties. He then went to the agreed address, posing as an emergency sewer inspector, and gained admittance to the 22-year-old woman’s Tokyo apartment at half-past-midnight. He then raped his victim at knifepoint, while recording the revenge attack for his client.
He also stole 10,000 yen from his victim, then took a taxi to an all-night sauna, because even hired muscle needs a good sweat after a hard job.
But crime, it turns out, doesn’t always pay—at least not the advertised rate. Instead of the promised 30,00 yen, all that Yamamoto received was a paltry 5,738 yen via PayPay.
In court the victim described the lasting trauma—severe PTSD that means she can’t even use her own bathtub. Yamamoto admitted most of it but denied full vaginal intercourse and leaned hard on the "I was just following orders" defence.
The judges did not buy the hitman-with-no-agency routine. He had actively searched for the gig, they noted, and the motive was as short-sighted and self-centred as they come.
Matsuda, the mastermind with the lingering grudge due to being dumped and the creepy need for a "video nasty" of the entire incident, is facing his own trial.
